About Conway Yacht Club

The Club

Founded in 1911, Conway Yacht Club is one of the oldest in the area and an established part of Conwy history.

We offer a mix of activities, including:

  • An active sailing section with classic Conway One Designs (CODs) sailing fleet (with strong local historical significance) and a Cruiser Class
  • A dynamic rowing section with Celtic longboats and sculling, called the Deganwy Rowers
  • A vibrant social scene – the Clubhouse offering a bar with stunning views over the Conwy Estuary and Eryri, an established snooker interest and many social events
  • Opportunities to support local community interests and initiatives

We are open to all and welcome visitors, including:

  • Visiting Cruisers with appropriate insurance for races

Visiting members of British Rowing or the Welsh Sea Rowing Association (WSRA)

Sailing

The Club has two active racing fleets: the Cruiser Class and Conway One Design Class.

The Conway One Design (CODs) is an historic yacht designed and built specifically for the Conwy Estuary. Part of the townscape in Conwy for nearly 100 years, the first CODs were built in the 1920s at Menai Bridge and then, between 1928 to 1946, at Boat Yards in Bangor and Deganwy.  In 1988 moulds were made to allow the building of glass fibre CODs.

Thanks to the COD Centenary Project run by local enthusiasts, all 14 wooden-hull CODs still exist, with most seaworthy.

There are several ways to get involved with COD sailing and racing.More …

Rowing

Deganwy Rowers were established as part of Conway Yacht Club in 2019. We are an all-inclusive club, welcoming people keen to row across all ages, abilities and interests. We provide a dynamic mix of social and competitive rowing in our Celtic Longboats and Sculls, and we welcome all visiting affiliated rowers.

Situated on the beautiful Conwy Estuary in Deganwy, it’s a perfect and protected position for launching and rowing, which means the Club can row all year round, weather permitting.
